In the Act of Emerging Creatures & The Organic Line | Workshop | Tuesday 17th June 5-7pm

I would like to invite you to a workshop session on Tuesday 17th June, 5pm – 7pm. As a visitor to Sense Lab, I had hoped to generate ways of sharing, exploring, generating, moving and relating with you all through the generosity of practice. When I arrived, I was moved into the world of Lygia Clark whose practice seems to be resonating with so many of us right now. Sensitive to this, I’d like to propose a workshop that explores some of Clark’s notions of ‘the act’, ‘the creature’ and ‘the organic line’ with you all.

In conversation with the environment ‘After Lygia Clark’ which is as I write, emerging inside of the Sense Lab, this workshop will begin with the proposition of some sensory, movement-based and drawing-based tasks. Although in the first instance the invitation will be initiated by myself I hope my propositions will be taken up, taken apart and co-composed within the group.

We’ll start by attending to the rhythms of a ‘cellular breathing’ in the ‘minds’ of muscles, bones, glands, fibres, nerves……with each in breath and out breath taken by those billion or so tiny cells we might become aware of the ‘cosmic lung’…..with each in and out breath we start to connect with the space around us, filling space with our breath, filling our breath with the space…..they merge…….we’ll follow and find ‘organic lines’ that emerge in and through the confluence of multiple bodies and spaces……and, by doodling these lines on paper, and transferring or translating them through bodies and surfaces, ‘creatures’ might emerge ‘in the act’…….

I hope to see some of you there and to use it as an opportunity to process and transform some of our thinking on Clark’s work and our mutual projects……although I have proposed the above….we can also be open to discussion and the emergence of new invitations…..
Movement will be very small, but soft and comfortable clothes would be good so that we can make contact with surfaces with greater
