Schizo-somatic workshop #19 July 4, 5-7pm

Please join us for the next schizo-somatic workshop Wednesday, July 4 from 5-7pm, at SenseLab. This week’s activation is by Marcela B. The workshop gives simple and concise instructions to work with things found at hand. It presents the acts of choosing, exchanging and naming as exercises of interference and superposition that articulate how things make sense...

Schizo-somatic workshop #18 June 27, 2-4pm

Please join us for the next schizo-somatic workshop Wednesday, June 27 from 2-4pm, at SenseLab. This week’s activation is by Sean Smith, with an intervention by k.g. Guttman. We are interested in the question of the leak, specifically by a reminder from Barbara Glowczewski that Deleuze and Guattari’s ‘lignes de fuites’ means both ‘lines of flight’ and a reference to the liquid properties of leaking. What is *vital* about the leak? Or, what is vital about leak*ing*, in processual terms—the schizz? To this curiosity about the leak in schizo-somatic movement-tendencies, we’d like to weave a link to another current SenseLab thread of inquiry, namely: wondering what is vital about the leak in (speculative, schizo) financial terms (such as, leaking information to the media in advance of a market transaction, the ways that time leaks in derivative terms). We will begin with a focus on a particular type of leaking: ‘evacuation’, and the vitality affects, releases, and surges of energy which accompany them. We will follow the example offered to us by the infant and inspired by our own children (with their hiccups, burps, farts, poos, pees) to explore evacuation as a form of breathing and sounding. And then we hope to drift, or to leak out of this loose score: How is the (dis)(em)bodying of value a leakage? How does speculative finance connect to or perform the leak? How does a market evacuate? How do vitality affects emerge from evacuation as an alter-economic value...

Schizo-somatic workshop #17 June 20th, 3-5pm

Please join us for the next schizo-somatic workshop Wednesday June 20 from 3-5pm, at Sense Lab. This week activation is by Diego Gil. Summer schizo-somatics are fun. Following the impulse of the past session activated by Mayra Morales called “Let’s Dance”, we will continue dancing this next Wednesday. Why not? I propose to work with a movement technique that attends to the interruptions of the movement continuity. The aim is to listen to the ecologies of activities moving across the room, when we dance only a small part of what we consider a complete movement. We will warm up bringing awareness to the fluid and ligamentous system of the body. Then we will give shape to our movement patterns in the space, and finally we will begin to trim each movement complete actualization. No previous dance knowledge is needed. If you don’t feel like moving, the technique can be done with your imagination. Bring comfortable clothes, specially sneakers you can dance with. This specific technique is part of the dance performance project “The Half” (2010), which will be re-staged this August at Tanznacht Festival...

Schizo-somatic workshop series #16 June 13th, 3-5pm

Please come and us for the next schizo-somatic workshop next Wednesday June 13th from 3-5pm at the Senselab activated by Mayra Morales: “For this ‘Let’s Dance’ schizo- somatic activation I bring a dance practice that has built some moves in m:m’s bodyings. Basically I’ll guide a contemporary dance class. No previous knowledge needed. Just bring comfortable clothes that allow you to explore full range of body movements, from floor rolling,  to wide X’x and to small cocoons. We will engage with a traditional dance class ritual, from warm up, and what some people call developmental movement pattern explorations to collaboratively building up some rhythmic transitioning movement sequences to go from the floor to standing and viceversa. Body inversions will be encouraged. We will then move across the room with fancy chases or feet combinations, perhaps some cartwheels-like. I repeat, no previous knowledge needed, we will figure it out, or not. Toward the end we’ll make our bodies available for lifting off from the floor with some small jumps and turns. Finally we’ll learn together a small choreography to dance in quartets. And end with some cooling down and body work exercises. It will be a very invigorating session yet movement softness and ease will be massaged. So come ready to sweat and bring a water bottle! If you’re feeling the vibe, bring a fancy dance outfit, tights, pants, shorts, bodysuit, or a special dance t-shirt, but if that makes you uncomfortable bring whatever makes you feel dancy enough. I’m excited to share this practice that I usually hide in a very far corner. I hope that you can come,...

Schizo-somatic workshop series, #14 May 30th, 3-5pm

Hi Everyone, Join us for the second schizo-somatic interlude next Wednesday May 30th from 3-5pm at the Senselab activated by Erin Manning. SCHIZOSOMATIC INTERLUDE – Anarchiving 2 Please come to explore the shape and vitality of a schizosomatic interlude, this time in an encounter with the anarchival traces of the practice itself. Our work will be to mobilize those traces and explore their capacity to shape processual operators (POTs). Please go to www.senselab.ca and look under 3 Ecologies Institute to read the working paper on POTs before the workshop. It might also be useful to read the interview on the 3E Process Seedbank posted there. We will also re visit the short text selection by Daniel Stern’s “The Interpersonal World of the Infant” and a quote from Virginia’s Wolf “Mrs Dalloway”.
